Deepstar Charters' offers an unforgettable experience in 24 hour Hapuka trips. Hapuka trips depart from Tauranga and begin first thing in the morning with bottom fishing for main species of fish such as Tarakihi and Snapper, as well as a variety of John Dory, Trevally, Pink Moamoa, Porae and Golden Snapper.

Mid morning the charter leaves for Hapuka fishing grounds to fish for Blue Nose, Hapuka, Bass and Gem Fish, which all make for a delicious meal! Mayor Island is the most prominent fishing area for Hapuka all year round, with particularly excellent fishing during the autumn months.

White Island Hapuka trips are priced at $1600 per day with a 2 day minimum required. Hapuka bait is supplied with a $30 rod hire including all tackle.

Gear required -14/0 hooks minimum 200kg trace, 27-32oz sinkers, rods 24-37kg braid or nylon minimum 500 meters.

All private charters are required to supply their own food.

Private overnight Hapuka trips

Our private overnight Hapuka trips run from Tauranga 6pm in the evening until 6pm the following evening (24 hours), and are for private groups of up to 10 people.
  • $2,100 private groups up to 10 people
  • Supply your own bottom bait, or purchase on board for $20 per person
  • Supply your own Hapuka bait, or purchase on board for $20 per person
  • ALL ON BOARD BAIT MUST BE PRE-BOOKED FOR YOUR TRIP
  • Rod hire: $30 per bottom rod & $30 per Hapuka rod (all tackle included)
  • If you are bringing your own rods please note we only have limited tackle on board
  • Please supply your own breakfast & lunch
  • Deposits are required for ALL Hapuka bookings, $300 per group

White Island Hapuka and Kingfish trips

White Island Hapuka trips are priced at $2,300 per day with a 2 day minimum required. Hapuka and bottom bait is $40 per person, per day, rod hire including all tackle is $30 per rod (Hapuka and Bottom rods are hired separately). Please contact us for more information on these trips.

If you wish to target Kingfish you must have your own gear including rods and jigs.
