DAILY REEF FISHING FAQ’s

 

DEPARTURE

FULL DAY DEPARTURE: Fisherman’s Wharf, Dive Crescent, Tauranga 7am-5pm

or Salisbury Wharf, Mount Maunganui 7.30am-4.30pm

HALF DAY DEPARTURE: Salisbury Wharf, Mount Maunganui Only 9am-3pm

 

WHAT TO BRING

-      Lunch and drinks for the duration of your trip

-      For private charters we have a BBQ and kitchen on board for your use

-      Warm clothing and gym shoes are the best footwear

-      Chilly bins and sea ice (essential for private charters, approximately 4x 10kg bags of ice for the day, and recommended for public trips a 5-10kg bag depending on the size of your group, alternatively you can use fish bins on board with water to keep your fish fresh for the day)

-      Life jackets are available on board

GEAR & BAIT

Hire your rod, all tackle and bait from us ($40 per person on half day trips and $50 per person on full day trips). Or bring your own as below:

-      8-10 ounce sinkers (at least three)

-      2 to 3 Bar O hooks (very important)

-      80 metres of line

-      Enough tackle for the day

-      Bonito or squid (approximately 1kg per person)

-      Sea ice can be purchased in 5-10kg bags at Top Catch.

PARKING

We recommend you arrive well before your departure time to allow enough time to find suitable parking, especially during the summer months.


TAURANGA: Strand Carpark is located right next to Fisherman’s Wharf on Dive Crescent. You can park here daily and overnight, parking fees may apply. For more information on parking in Tauranga click HERE.

MOUNT MAUNGANUI:
Salisbury Wharf is located right on The Mall at Pilot Bay. Free street parking is available all along The Mall.

 

CONFIRMATION

We will confirm the trip 1-2 days before the trip, we need to check the most up to date weather forecast to ensure safe conditions. If you do not hear from us, please ensure you contact us to confirm 0274 731 523 or deepstar.charters@gmail.com.

If your trip is cancelled due to the weather conditions, we will rebook you at a suitable time, or a refund of deposit can be provided.




HAPUKA FISHING FAQ’s

 

DEPARTURE

Fisherman’s Wharf, Dive Crescent, Tauranga 6pm-6pm (24 hour trip) or 6am-6pm (12 hour trip)

 

WHAT TO BRING

-      All food and drinks for the duration of your trip (plus enough food for the skipper and deckhand on 24 hour trips)

-      Paper plates and cutlery

-      We have a BBQ and kitchen on board for your use

-      Warm clothing and gym shoes or gumboots are the best footwear

-      Chilly bins and sea ice (approximately 5x 10kg bags of ice)

-      Sleeping bags and pillows (or we have some pillows on board)

-      Life jackets are available on board

 

PAYMENTS

Bank deposit or cash only (no eftpos)

Hire your rod, all tackle and bait from us or bring your own as below:

Bottom Fishing

-      8-10 ounce sinkers (at least three)

-      2 to 3 Bar O hooks (very important)

-      Bonito or squid (approximately 1kg per person)

 

Hapuka Fishing

-      6/0 or 9/0 rod and reel

-      At least 500 meters of 24kg line

-      14/0 tuna circle hooks (two to three) with 200lb trace and 27 – 32 ounce sinkers

-      A gimbal belt is required or there are some on board for use

-      Squid which doubles for bottom and hapuka bait (approximately 2kg per person)

-      Sabiki flies and squid jigs for catching livebaits under lights at night

 

-      Sea ice can be purchased in 5-10kg bags at Top Catch.
